The Rev. Dr. Albert L. Morton, President of Worthington College in the state capitol, Harrison, for twenty five years, stood naked looking out of the large window of his office on the first floor of Stephens Hall. His critical glance carefully analyzed the undulating green hills and aging Victorian buildings on the old campus. The Methodists had moved their college here at the beginning of the twentieth century to the site of an old plantation. The administration building replaced the plantation home and the students the many slaves moving across the landscape. Now Morton, like the lord of the manor of old, was the master of all he surveyed in his little domain.

A young professor of religion and philosophy is called to a prophetic ministry on his campus. A prophet is someone who has a unique and distinct message, one who sees into a situation with startling clarity. One who suddenly and unmistakably knows the truth and its implications. One who must speak out in a way that will forever change the reality of the situation. One who speaks truth to power and pays the price. He is forced to make the most difficult decisions of his life. He is challenged to defend the values for which he stands that he has taught to generations of students.
About the Author
Richard Moseley earned both his theological school degree and his PhD in religion. He spent half of his career teaching in a church-related college and heading his department. The other half has been in serving as the pastor of local churches. His wife is also a United Methodist Church pastor. They have two grown children, and a grand child.
