My first grade teacher, Mrs. Erb, told my class we had to do a special handwriting paper. I did not want to do it because I didn't feel like writing that day. My pencil was not very sharp. When I told Mrs. Erb my thoughts, she encouraged me to do my best. I decided to make a diligent effort, even though I really didn't want to. (Perseverance means hanging in there and doing something that you really don't feel like doing.)
I took my pencil, put it between my two arms, and did my best on the handwriting assignment. Mrs. Erb collected the papers. She chose mine to represent the first grade class and sent it in to a handwriting contest.

About the Author
Annie Clark from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was born without hands. She won a National Handwriting Contest in 2012. She has appeared on the Glenn Beck show twice. She continues to inspire the world with her determination and persevering spirit.
