The Sow That Was Washed 2 Peter 2:22 Did you ever give a pig a bath? Have you every dressed up a pig with a new outfit? Pigs are smart and sometimes make a good pet. When I was four years old, I had a pet hog that my sister and I rode around the farm. That was a good hog, but there was one problem. Every time he got loose he would get into the mud and get absolutely filthy. He just kept going back to the mud. But that’s the way pigs are.
The Bible says that some people do the same thing. 2 Peter says that some people whose lives have been cleaned up by faith in Jesus Christ will go right back to the same old sins and way of life. Verse 22 says that they are “like the sow that was washed and returned to wallow in the mire.”
The bible is not calling people pigs and the bible does not teach us that we will ever be perfectly sinless, but it does teach us that when God cleans us up he expects us to do our part to stay clean.
John 1:9 says that “if we confess out sins he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us.”
If you have not been cleansed from your sins you can be by faith in Jesus Christ. If you have been cleansed but have gone back to the mud you can keep asking for gods forgiveness and asking him to help you stay out of the mud.

About the Book
As the sun comes up every morning to give light to a dark world, we are reminded that God’s mercies and compassions are new every morning (Lam. 3:22, 23). The sunrise also assures us that we can look to God’s Word each day and find light for a world in spiritual darkness. This collection of daily devotions is intended to give hope and help with assurance that God has the answers to every situation and season of life.

The author graduated from Ohio University and studied Bible and missions at Free Will Baptist Bible College. He worked in juvenile correctional facilities and in community services and served as interim pastor in Texas, Ohio, and the Republic of Panama. He is currently a pastor in Ohio, involved in nursing-home visitation and bible studies in an adult prison.
