Closer Than You Think
(Psa. 34:18 NKJV) The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit.
You have learned that God cannot and will not reject those who are accepted in Christ Jesus. Remember the scripture: See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hand? One of the questions in my heart that was important to me on my journey through the maze of offense was whether or not God really cared about my hurts. Does God care when we are mistreated? This Scripture, Psalm 34:18, and the ones to follow answered that question for me, and I hope they will for you too. Knowing God cares will help you to get out of the maze of offense, and be forever free from the prison of unforgiveness. Knowing God cares will help you to heal, and release the offenses against you.
Do you have a broken heart, or other emotional hurts? God understands how you are feeling; after all, He is your Creator and knows your emotional makeup better than you do. In fact, most of us don't understand much at all about our emotional circuitry. At times we have emotions we don't want to feel, and at other times we try to feel feelings that we can't conjure up. There are volumes written on the study of the emotional makeup of mankind, yet I don’t believe anyone really understands fully the depth of the emotional maze within each of us. It is comforting to know that God knows all about our emotional makeup, and knows exactly what to do, and what to say to help us through our difficult time.
God says He is near to you. He knows we need Him more than ever when we are wounded and confused. Even though He says He is near, it is difficult, if not impossible, for us to feel His nearness when we are broken and offended. This is the time when we must, by faith, grab hold of this basic truth (that He is near), no matter what we feel. Remember, the remedy for what ails us is God's Word. We must take our medicine just like the doctor ordered.
Let us decide to believe what God says more than we believe what people say, and what our own thoughts say to us. I said decide because that is exactly what you will have to do. You will need to make a decision to magnify God’s Word above anyone else’s word. Always keep in mind that you are to walk by faith not by feelings (2 Cor. 5:7). God did not say that you would feel Him near you during difficulties; He just declares that He is near. Believe God, He is near.
Priceless Treasure
(Psa. 56:8 NKJV) You number my wanderings; Put my tears into Your bottle; Are they not in Your book?
Look at this Scripture! God numbers your wanderings. He keeps track of every place you go, and of everything you do. He knows everything that has to do with you. Have you ever loved someone so much that you kept a book of all the details of their life? Have you ever cared so much about someone's tears that you put them all in a bottle as if they were priceless treasures? I doubt it. No human could. In order to do that you would have to be omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient, never slumbering or sleeping. Those are all attributes of God, not man.
In order for God to do this, He can never ever take His watchful eyes off of you, not even for a split second. He needs to know everything about you and every tear you shed lest He miss one in His bottle. God also knows about the invisible tears you shed in your heart even though they never drop from your eyes. Every tear ever shed by your wounded heart has been put in a bottle and written about. Jesus wants us to know about God's loving, tender, fatherly concern for us, so he said,
(Mat. 10:30 NKJV) "But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.”
That means that God know every minuscule, tedious detail about you because He loves you that much. Really, who cares how many hairs are on someone's head? No one does; no one except God, that is. Your Father in heaven loves you so much He can't take His eyes off of you for one moment because He wants to know every little detail about you. Yes, He cares for you.
I'll Take Your Hurts
