I helped some people that day.
Coming home … I was on my way.
When what did I happen to see …
People in distress, needing help desperately.
But what I didn’t see
Was that car coming right at me!
I helped some people that day, Mom.
That’s exactly what I was going to say to you, Mom.
But the home I reached, Mom,
Is the home above,
The home you always sweetly taught of
Mom, I helped some people that day,
And now on earth
I cannot stay.
I lived my life as you named me—
Could have done better, maybe.
I lived and walked, being Havens:
A place of safety, a place of rest.
Yes, I did my very best.
Mom, I helped some people that day
I did not come here to stay.

God has caused this very same action of unconditional love; that is now Havens’ legacy—to become a pathway of understanding that has changed countless lives, put our broken hearts back together, and led us on this healing journey of restoration.
About the Author
Cheryle Morgan-Houston’s life path, as well as her compassion, sensitivity, and recent restoration, has inspired her to help other individuals onto a road of recovery that she has personally traveled. She has been a foster parent and respite care provider for more than seven years. Mrs. Morgan-Houston is a licensed minister in the Written Word Ministry under the phenomenal teaching of Bishop C.L. Middleton Sr. of Mt. Zion New Covenant Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan. She serves with her husband, Elder Lorenzo Houston, in the Word Alive Ministry, where the Word of God is dramatically enacted through plays, skits, and character portrayals. Mrs. Morgan-Houston’s other interests include writing, architecture, history, and music. Cheryle is a former civil servant and resides in Detroit, Michigan with her husband of twenty-four years.
