Possum Kingdom and Beyond
I believe that everyone needs a Possum Kingdom in their life – and especially in their ministry – if they are going to do exploits for the Kingdom of God. “Possum Kingdom” is the place where our faith, and belief in God’s commitment to provide us, is tested and refined.
It was January 1961 when I arrived home having finished my military service and in February I met with our denomination’s credentialing committee to get my license to preach. On March 10, Doris and I were married in the little town of Moody, Texas, by our dear friend and superintendent, Rev. E. R. Anderson. By April we had moved to the small town of Graford, near Possum Kingdom, Texas We were told that it would be a good place for us to begin our ministry.
So, married for just one month, we moved to a mew town to take on a church that had been shut down for nearly two years. There was no pastor and no people. All that was left was an empty church building and a parsonage.
One of the first things I wanted to do as we began our ministry together was to get a desk where I could study. We couldn’t afford anything fancy, but I managed to find a little desk that needed a lot of work done to it. I got it home and set about tightening all the screws and sanding it down. It had a lot of watermarks on the top, so I painted it solid black. That was my study desk. I’ll never forget it.
I set the desk in the corner of our bedroom, placing a small lamp on it and the few study books I had in my library at the time. For many nights I studied with my beautiful wife sleeping in the bed behind me. It just felt right.
I knew Doris was with me as I studied and prayed into the wee hours of the morning. I’ll never forget those early days in Possum Kingdom and the start of a ministry that still continues after fifty-two years. Don’t forget where you came from!
When we reopened the church three families showed up. We had a dozen people including children. This was quite exciting, but we lived by faith- there was no salary for a pastor; no income of any kind.
This is what I mean about everyone needing a Possum Kingdom in their life. We were going to have to trust the Lord all the way. To trust Him that He was totally committed to looking after us and providing for our needs, like He promised in His Word. We did just that and we witnessed the hand of God in so many ways.

This book is organized thematically, rather than chronologically, in order to focus on and illustrate the various principles below. Our purpose is to encourage others to step out and trust God to live and serve Him-under the supernatural guidance and power of the Holy Spirit.
Pioneering--The process and practice of Missionary Evangelism and how God calls us to follow Him, often without a clear road map of what is ahead.
Provision--How God miraculously supplies all our needs when we obey Him and risk everything to do His will. This includes how God has provided for specific needs and enabled the ministry.
Protection--Stories about the risks inherent in pioneering places where no--or very few--churches exist. How God has provided miraculous protection in dangerous situations.
Power--Stories about God’s power manifest in miracles and healing. God faithfully accompanies the preaching of the Word with signs and wonders, and God is able to transform the lives of others as we step out in faith.
About the Author
Franklin and Doris have traveled and ministered together for more than fifty three years. They have a passion for lost souls and take revival wherever they go. People are being saved, healed, delivered and set free with signs, wonders and miracles following their ministry. They are both fluent in Spanish and English.
