Soaking...What in the World is That!
If you look up the word soak in a dictionary, it is defined as: make or allow (something) to become thoroughly wet by immersing it in liquid; become saturated by immersion; to penetrate or affect the mind or feelings.
Words synonymous with soak: immerse, steep, marinate, submerge.
Being from the South, when I read these definitions my mind immediately goes to "pickling." This is the process that a small cucumber goes through to become a pickle. One simply immerses the cucumber in vinegar (or a similar solution) and allows it to marinate until it is completely saturated. Keep in mind that the cucumber is not "doing" anything during this process, it is simply resting, soaking, what it is immersed IN is doing the work.
We need to learn how to just BE with God. Rest in Him. Soaking is a great way to gear down from all the activities and concerns of the day and just chill with Holy Spirit. Our body needs this, our mind needs this, our spirit needs this. And yes, this may feel like a waste of time as you begin to practice this, BUT oh how wonderfully productive soaking is!!!
Soaking is not praying, it is not praising, it is not asking, it is not talking...it is lying there connecting with Abba (Father) God. Soaking is taking time to rest in His presence and allowing His love to saturate us. It is a doorway into intimacy with God.
