Is belief just a matter of opinion? Well, I don't think that it can be ultimately. There has to be some evidence of God's existence if he is there. It may not be any form of satisfactory scientific proof, but there must be evidence. If he beckons us to discover him, then a "successful discovery" has to have some sort of observable effect. Plainly, many who call themselves Christians seem to have lives that are no different from anyone else, so there would be no observable effect in their lives. But is that always the case?
Emphatically, no! I know many Christians whose lives have been completely turned around by knowing Christ. They have turned from despair to hope, from selfishness to caring about others and from sickness to health to mention just a few effects. Of course, this could be put down to placebo effects or something similar, but how about animals being healed through prayer? How about the drug addicts from the desperate gangs in Hong Kong living in the highly dangerous back streets, waging gang warfare that would frighten you out of your wits. Countless members of these gangs have been reached by Jackie Pullinger. Jackie is not some sort of fearless woman; she is just somebody who decided God wanted to use her to reach people and so set off in faith that she would end up in the right place. She ended up in the narrow dark alleys of Hong Kong and the work she has done has massively transformed those people's lives. Did she battle? Of course she did. She found it almost impossible to help them stay off drugs until she found that by praying for the Holy Spirit to enter into their situations in what is called the "baptism in the Spirit", it enabled them to overcome the horribly addictive effects of heroin. Transformed lives like that have to be strong evidence that there is something far more than psychology at work. I have no doubt many atheists will battle to find another explanation, but this is by no means the only bit of evidence. This kind of transformation is repeated over and over again all over the world every single day of every week. If this is not God, then it must something answering to his description!

Richard Dawkins’s The God Delusion is one of the most serious attacks on religion in recent times. A number of highly capable authors have countered it.
Neil’s reply is different from most. He finds areas of agreement with Dawkins over a number of his assessments of religion while exposing his erroneous understanding of the nature of God. He shows that Dawkins’s attack on God is irrelevant even though he successfully demolishes what he imagines is the Christian “god”.

Tackling thorny topics like the meaning of faith, miracles, morality, and righteousness, Neil honestly appraises Christian views, tries to debunk misconceptions about these topics, and shows that science and faith can be mutually enhancing.
