Does God speak today? Could God be whispering today? Maybe God whispers to our hearts in a variety of ways to draw you close to Him. The Bible tells us that in the beginning He created the mountains, the oceans, the plant life and animal life. Have you been to the Grand Canyon and stood on the edge looking down into the canyon, or have you been to the Bryce Canyon where the moments are many like large spirals that reach to the sky, in Utah? The fingers of God carved these two canyons out so totally different. Have you ever driven through the winding roads of South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia? Have you seen or been to the Alps of Switzerland or stood on a mountaintop covered in snow? The experience of flying in a plane to witness the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness can be amazing! Have you seen the dance of the aurora borealis in the night sky? Have you visited and looked at the red mountains in Sedona, Arizona? How many of you have stood on the shorelines of Georgia, California, Washington, Oregon, Hawaii or Italy to view the ocean? Have you have been on a cruise out in the middle of the ocean and what did you witness? Have you ever walked the Great Wall of China? You sometimes can be driving under a canopy of trees that shadows your automobile with beams of sunlight flickering through the trees. Have you seen documentaries showing you the many wonders of nature in the world? Have you seen pictures that try to capture the view of these wonders? Has your mind been drawn to the realization that there is a God that created all the beauty that you have seen? When you know without a doubt that God created what you have seen, then that was His whisper to you that He is real! He sings through the wonders of nature.
It seems the rivers, the trees, the rocks, the oceans and the seas clap their hands together in a symphony of praise to God! (Psalms 98:8) The sun, the moon and the stars reflect the wonder of the Creator of heaven and earth. (Psalms 148:3-4) The mountains and hills burst into song as we witness the Glory of God. (Isaiah 55:12)
God created the foundations of the earth and marked off its dimensions. (Job 38:4-7) God spoke to Job, in his distress, to reveal how He was there to create all of nature and the universe. God told Job that the angels shouted for joy!
Psalms 95:3-7, For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care. NIV
The voice of the Lord is over all that He created, and He sings the thunder in rhythm as He brings the rains to nourish the lands. The Lord’s voice is powerful! (Psalms 29:3-9) In the New Testament Jesus spoke in parables to teach the people the truth of what God wanted them to know. (Note: A parable is a short story that the people could easily relate to, and it had a deeper spiritual meaning. People who were sensitive to God would pick up on it, but those who were not, just heard a story.) He wanted the people to stay close to Him, to learn of Him and be like Him. He would often use nature to bring out a deeper understanding.
John 15:5, "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. NIV
Jesus taught about the kingdom of God by using something they understood. The mustard seed is the smallest seed that grows to become a giant tree. The people understood what He was talking about because Jesus was planting His seed of truth in their hearts so that it could grow through these wise messages. The people that listened and applied His teaching to their lives would one day draw others to the truth of His testimony through them. This is how the kingdom would grow.
Luke 13:18-19, Then Jesus asked, "What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to? It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air perched in its branches." NIV
Nature whispers to our hearts! The flowers need the rain to help them grow, so God allows the rain of tribulation to assist us to grow. God sends the sunshine to our hearts so that
Jesus spoke about how and why He would die. He shared how the wheat seed must die so that the wheat would grow. (John 12:23-25) He spoke about the heart of a man and how many ways people respond to His teachings. The seed was the Word of God. The seed would fall on a dry surface, on rocky ground, in the weeds and on good ground. Read (Matthew 13:18-23) for the explanation. Please continue to read the rest of this chapter so that you can capture more of how nature could whisper to you. Put yourself in the picture and then you can experience His love.
