ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Bernd Weimer is 53 years old, has been married for 30 years and is father to three grown–up boys. His spiritual development was strongly influenced by a severe car accident in 2003. Because of the stroke that he had, he was confined to a wheelchair for many years. Contrary to the prognoses of the doctors he trusted in his complete healing by his God, whom he got to know through reading his Bible. This trust was strengthened through the affiliation to RVCCM*. In this ministry, he has been leading the House Church Marburg in his home village Cyriaxweimar since 2005. He has been reading his Bible according to this Bible Reading Plan for many years and is amazed by the idea of journaling his thoughts and prayers while reading. Today he works in a voluntary capacity in his hometown Marburg and focuses on working with the elderly. Up until this time he cannot return to his former occupation as an engineer. For one year he has been able to walk again with a few tools. He is trusting in the complete manifestation of his healing soon.
* RVCCM (Rhein Valley Cell Church Ministries) is a house church ministry of Raising the Standards International (RSI e. V.) with several house churches spread all over Germany. Further information about the ministry can be found on www.rvccm.com.
BIBLE READING PLAN WITH PRAYER JOURNAL The Bible reading plan I used for this book allows you to read through the whole Bible in one year by daily covering 3–4 chapters. I want to encourage you to come with me and others on an adventure by daily progressing through God’s Word. You will experience day by day the blessings that come from reading and meditating on His Word and will reap the joy of accomplishing this together with other believers in the fellowship. You can do this privately or you may get together once in a while with a brother or sister to spend some reading time together. The plan itself is merely a tool to help you keeping track of your progress. At the same time, if you stay committed to it, we all read the same Bible passages in parallel and therefore could also exchange with each other much easier, what the Lord is telling us individually and corporately through His Word. What is special with this Bible Reading Plan? You will read through the whole Bible completely within one year. The Gospel of John will be read twice because of its special significance. The book of Job is chronologically placed before God’s covenant with Abraham to help the reader understand the setting of the events that take place better. I paired key passages. For example, we’ll read the blessings and curses of Deuteronomy 28 on the same day Galatians pronounces that, through Christ, we’re redeemed from the curse and recipients of the blessing.
1 LOVE — LOVE OF NEIGHBOR — LOVE OF ENEMIES Luke 6:32: For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. This is probably the most difficult kind of love that Jesus calls us to. We are used to loving people that we know well and who treat us friendly, but now are we even supposed to love those who offend and hurt us? Does that not go too far? Jesus even goes a step further: he forgives his enemies. Therefore he calls us to also love our enemies, to bless those who curse us, to do good to those who hate us, and to pray for those who offend us. Because we are His followers, we are able to do so, not out of our own strength but out of His. Stephen (the first martyr) forgives his murderers as they stone him. Forgiveness isn’t made possible through a strong will but only because Jesus lives in us and He poured out His Godly love in us. I became aware of that lesson after my car accident. My friend, who was driving, was killed in the accident and I received an intracranial injury and consequentially had a stroke. I was informed by my lawyer that there was to be a trial against the accident perpetrator. The lawyer asked me if I would trust myself to meet him. I had never felt anger toward the accident perpetrator. It was obvious to me that he was a young man who lost control over his car by speeding and accidentally ran into us. I recognized though that my attitude was God’s work in me. I never met this young man personally, however, I still love him like every other person. Even though this accident changed my life drastically overnight, I still know that I can trust Jesus in everything and He will take care of me. I have forgiven the young man, with all of my heart, and I am praying for him that he may also experience the endless love of Jesus. Going Deeper: Romans 12:9–21 Prayer: Father I thank You for the love that You have poured out in me. Show me today whom I can encounter in Your love and whom I can love with Your love. Amen.
