If I Were to Become a Man

Voices of experience can be comforting and empowering as we seek to approach an uncertain future, but in our youth we demand to venture out on our own in our own way. It’s not until some of us are well into our journey that we realize there is a wealth of knowledge and experience available to us in those who have traveled before: men of prior generations. That is why I have chosen to pursue this body of work – to offer basic advice to my boys as they venture off away from home with a wild sense of freedom and, perhaps, to provide a picture for my daughter of qualities to be sought in a husband. The real world will be exposed in time. They will see the captivity that will ensnare them soon enough, but my hope is to deliver some waypoints that they will recognize as their journey begins.
