Chapter Five
It Must Happen From Within
“While we may seek change today so often the catalyst for
our desire has very little to do with our present circumstances
and has everything to do with our past circumstances”
~Ed Young, Jr.
Many times that is what holds us back from seeing what God wants us to see. Instead of looking out the windshield we keep looking at our rearview mirror. When we do this, we think our past is chasing us and it holds us back from reaching our full potential in Christ. Pastor Sergio De La Mora shares in his book that “If we are not careful the voice of our past will cause us to slip back into those familiar patterns” (Sergio De La Mora, The Heart Revolution, 2011, pg.22).
Your past could very well contain a number of issues that most had to or are currently dealing with. The freedom of Christ makes no exception of person. Today you can choose to be free! You may ask; “How?” Simple…the Bible tells us; “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free”. Ok, then what is that truth? Jesus said; “I AM the truth”. Once you encounter Jesus Christ you know the truth. And once you know the truth you will encounter freedom in Him, by Him, through Him! But in order for the Truth to be in you, you must learn to let go of the lie.
Mark Batterson once said; “At some point in our lives most of us stop living out of imagination and start living out of memory. That’s the day we stop living and start dying. To be fully alive is to be fully present in the present. It mandates leaving the past in the past. (All In, Mark Batterson, Zondervan)
Paul said; “I focus on this ONE thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on…”(Philip.3:13,14a) there are so many things that can influence our vision…so many distractions in life. We struggle with the flesh, the world and satan’s attacks…but we must do as Paul did… “FOCUS ON THIS ONE THING: FORGET THE PAST AND LOOK FORWARD”!
Trust God that, “When the enemy, (whatever it may be), comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against Him”.
