The Bible states in the book of Proverbs that “some people like to make cutting remarks”. There are people that enjoy the “power of the tongue”. These people enjoy making remarks to others that “curse” under the guise of “speaking their minds”. They use the power of the tongue to curse, slander and destroy. If people of this sort had to bless other people with the power the tongue holds, they would have very little to say. They relish in the thought that they have the “courage” to hurt others.
Another trait people of this sort possess is that they are “know-it-alls”. If is fruitless to argue with a person that believes that he or she possesses so much knowledge. People of this sort appear to be the enemy’s mouth piece, spouting comments the devil would speak into your mind himself. Like the devil, the “know-it-all” believes he can tell you who you are; to validate or invalidate. He does not need to be familiar because they can be total strangers. The enemy can use anyone to speak lies into your life. Lies are one of the devil’s most potent weapons.
The lies imposed by the enemy are verbal attacks that are usually preceded by “I think” and usually concluded by “I’m sorry but I have to speak my mind”. What’s more, you are expected to agree with any negative opinion concerning you. Disagreeing with him or her will bring about more insidious lies as they cannot stand to be wrong or disputed. After all, if they said it, it must be true. Psychologically, people that are insecure do not reassure other people. Spiritually, these people do not discern that they are vessels for the devil.
Being offensive is only one of the initiatives that drive people to speak on behalf of the devil. Control is another initiative. They feel as if they know the motives for everything you do. They are also experts at spin doctoring and projection; projecting onto you and other people things they are guilty of themselves. If they are liars, they think everyone is a liar. If they are thieves they trust no one. One of the manifestations of Satan is to accuse God’s children. The vessels that speak his lies about you will also accuse you.
These people are haughty, prideful, arrogant, etc. One of their favorite expressions is “I am sorry, I am just speaking my mind”, as if people need to know what is on their minds. They will dislike anyone that supports you. Anyone that disagrees with a negative comment about you will become their enemy. It is their arrogance that makes them feel as if everyone needs to know what they are thinking. In an effort to feel important, they will claim to know everything about you based on a few like-minded (kindred spirits) people that feel the same way about you as they do.
Regardless of what the subject is, they will always be right. One of the ways to tell when they realize that they are not as smart as they believe they are is when you comment on something and their reply is “how do you know”? (After all, how could you possible know something they did not?) These same people will attempt to tell you what your relationship with God is or if you even have a relationship with Him. In their darkest moments some will even tell that God does not love you.
The question is not why know-it-alls launch their verbal attacks. The question is why would you argue with one? Arguing is futile. These people revel in putting you on the defensive. It is waste of time to use any carnal tactic in responding (or not responding). In our humanity, we want to defend ourselves from unwarranted criticism. It is not suggested here that we cannot benefit from constructive criticism. The issues here are the mean spirited comments that are made with the sole purpose of diminishing your well-being.
Some people feel as if they are in a position to invalidate you. Criticism from these people are destructive not constructive. The negative comments are intended to attack you from the core of your “being” and into your mind and thoughts. If successful, you may begin to act in accordance to the lies that have become embedded in the core of your mind. It is important to understand that the lies come from the accuser himself, Satan. This is another reason discernment is important. You may become a thief if you believe the lies that you are a thief to become “wired” into your mind. It is the same process used in brainwashing; the power of suggestion is repeated until the subject buys into the lies and the idea becomes part of the subject’s though process.
The process that the devil uses is “spiritual washing” instead of brain washing even though the tactic used by him will manifest itself through the mind. The “enemy” will use relatives, friends and strangers. Do not find it strange if you notice that a stranger is repeating lies uttered by a close relative or friend; they may not know each other but they may be kindred spirits; the devil has told him what to say.
Proverbs states, “A fool doesn’t delight in reasoning but only expresses what he thinks”, 18:2. There is no reason to listen to the lies of the devil. That is what the “know-it-all” is; a puppet for Satan. When arguing with people of this sort, you are on the defensive instead of the offensive; exactly where the enemy wants us all. You give away your spiritual authority. The devil, (and the vessels he uses), cannot stand to be ignored. He will not give up. Do not respond to the “know-it-all” carnally. If you do, you have given him and the enemy “ammo” to continue their volley. Responding carnally is where they dwell. It is important to understand that they are at war with you spiritually, not personally. They are at war with God.
God is your advocate. It is the Lord and only the Lord that validates us. There are times when silence is the best answer during scathing criticism. Jesus’ answer many times was silence before His accusers. Ironically, one of the traits that a “know-it-all claims” you lack is the one he is most envious of yet hates the most; your walk with the Lord. It is the “light” that people see in you that they are attacking. Accusations are used by these people to deter any attention away from the sins in their own lives. They also have issues deep rooted in insecurities. The devil will attack your past because he has nothing on you in your present. God, in His own time will exalt you before you enemies. It is the “light” in you that your enemies are intimidated by. Anytime God’s presence is in the same vicinity with darkness spiritual warfare is imminent. Since the battle is in the spiritual realm, God will give you a proper response. Other times your best response will be the one you don’t make. Silence can be powerful and deafening.
