Why am I writing a book about my life? Has my life been that interesting? Overall my life has been fairly normal, maybe even routine, but there have been enough interesting and somewhat unusual experiences in my life to cause a number of people who have heard me share them say, “You ought to write a book”. Other friends have said that everyone should write the story of their life to leave with their family. These are two valid reasons for me writing the book, but I have a third reason for writing. Almost from the time that I became a Christian at the age of nineteen and started reading the Bible, I have been deeply convinced that the events and people that have shaped my life are the result of God’s Providence. I never really sought the great experiences that came into my life nor did I seek out the wonderful people that have blessed my life. These came into my life as the result and evidence of God’s wonderful Providence. I have tried to make this truth obvious from time to time in the book.

About the Book
In Eighty Years of Memories, Bob Rooks shares some of his most interesting memories from the time he was three years old until his eighty-fourth year. He was the youngest of six children born to a godly but extremely poor farm couple living in the hill country of northwestern Georgia. His mother died when he was five, but her influence in those early years of his life had a lasting effect in his spiritual development. He learned from his daddy after he became a pastor that when he was born his mother had prayed that he would become a preacher. He preached his first sermon at the age of twenty-two, and sixty-two years later he still preaches occasionally and teaches a large Bible class.
Though many of the stories in this book are related to Bob’s preaching ministry, a number of events described go beyond what could be called typical “preacher experiences,” and should be interesting to those readers not particularly interested in “preacher stories.” As a self-trained pianist, he was also involved quite extensively in ministries that were open to him because of this gift from God. He shares some of these experiences. His first pastorate was in Mississippi, but following graduation from seminary he answered a call to come to California and has remained here for fifty-four years.
About the Author
Bob is a graduate of Bob Jones University and the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He also did postgraduate studies at the Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. He is married to his wife, Peggy, who is a classically trained pianist and organist and a registered nurse. They have two children and two grandchildren.
