My Mama told me once that she never knew what love was until she had given birth to me. Mama did indeed love her children. Not necessarily the way parents sometimes understand that term. Parents today very often make their top priority friendship over everything else. She did much of the time have our friendship as children, but always our respect. She tolerated no less. No, mother loved us enough to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I remember one day my brother told her he hated her. She didn’t flinch she just answered him with absolute truth. She said. “My job is not to make you like me, but to raise you right.” The reason Mama wasn’t moved by our opinion of her was not because she didn’t care, because I am sure the arrow hit the target of her heart that day, but she loved us enough to keep the end goal in her mind at all times. That end goal to mama was to raise children who would love God with all their hearts and their neighbor as their self. Life has many happy and satisfying moments, but mama knew all too well that life also has its pain and sorrow. Either scenario requires wisdom and grit or tenacity. God’s word was the manual upon which her children were trained and every day was basic training at our house.

This book is the collection of wise sayings and advice that our Mama used to raise her children in the fifties and sixties in rural Oklahoma. About the Author
I have been in leadership positions in both Jurupa, California where I was in charge of the women's ministry at Tree of Life Church for a season and In Cordell, Oklahoma at Grace Family Church and Generations Church where I have been involved in leadership positions and Prayer Ministries for the past twenty five years.
However, with regard to this book, “Mama Use to Always Say," The best qualification I have is having lived it. I find it a great privilege to be asked to write all of Mama's sage advice down to share with others. Her family sincerely hopes that this book will make a difference in many people’s lives with something that seems to be getting rarer all the time, common sense, respect for our elders, and the one thing that makes either possible, Wisdom.
I live in the sleepy little town of Cordell, Oklahoma of about twenty five hundred people. Downtown Cordell looks like it was the backdrop to the movie“Back to the Future” with the enormous court house and old movie theater. I have been married to the same man, David Dobbs for nearly forty three years. We have four grown children, five grandchildren. Two step grandchildren, two step great grandchildren. I love to write and have written several children's stories and dabble in folk art. Like all grandmothers my favorite thing to do is spend precious time with my family.
