It was two weeks before my 24th birthday when our first child came into the world. What a precious bundle of love she was. Arriving 10 1/2 months later was our son, 5 years later, a daughter, then 6 years later, our last child, a daughter. I was well on my way in this world, as a parent. A mom! And oh what a mom I wanted to be. I had great plans and I just knew everything would all work out as I planned.
Unfortunately, things have not worked out as I planned. I had this fantasy that "my" family was different. That somehow we were almost perfect. Why not? I thought because my husband and I were good parents and we stirved very hard to please God that our family would be different. I thought by showing our children how important God is and by them accepting Christ early in their lives that we would be free of any complications. My fantasy crumbled as I have learned that this world and my family are not perfect. This world is definitely a battlefield, not a playground, as Chip Ingram writes in his book, "The Invisible War". I have learned that life is hard, and that my garden needs continuous work. I pray daily for God's strength and wisdom as I continue to help God grow my garden.

This book is for mothers who are working endlessly in their gardens making their families a protected and cultivated place. I’d like to encourage you to keep praying and never give up hope. Always remember this promise: The Lord is faithful, He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one (2 Thessalonians 3:3).
About the Author
Hazel Ray lives in a small town in the southeast. She has been a writer most of her life, expressing much of her thoughts through poetry, in prayer. She came to know Christ at the age of twelve and since that time, He has carried her through this life. She strives daily to follow the Lord’s lead in her life, and one of her greatest desires is to be a good mother to her four children. She works hard to make her home and family a protected and cultivated place. Her hope is that through her writings, Christian mothers can be encouraged and find hope during times of struggles within their families.
