Day 7: Are You Worshipping God on the Top of the Mountain?
When He had finished speaking with him upon Mount Sinai, He gave Moses the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, written by the finger of God. Now when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people assembled about Aaron and said to him, “Come, make us [a]a god who will go before us; as for this Moses, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” Exodus 31:18 – 32:1
When Moses went to the top of Mount Sinai, God spoke to him for 40 days on the top of the mountain. During this time, God gave Moses the Ten Commandments. Moses experienced the true and living God on the top of the mountain. He spoke with God face to face, and the bible records that on one occasion after Moses’ encounter with God his face shone with the glory of God. He was radiant, and the people become afraid of him. They were so afraid that he wore a veil to cover his face because he radiated with the glory of God. However, while Moses was on the top of the mountain, the Israelites were on the bottom of the mountain. They decided that they wanted to experience god too, so they made a golden calf to worship. They made their own idol and began to worship their god. However, the god that they worshipped at the bottom of the mountain was not the God that Moses experienced on the top of the mountain.
Who are you worshipping? Is it the God of the bible, or is it a god that you have created to suit your own needs like the Israelites? Many have made their own god at the bottom of the mountain to worship, who is not the God of the bible. At the bottom of the mountain, there is sin, transgression, compromise, and fleshly attempts at reaching a holy God. Are you ready to journey from where you are to experience God at the pinnacle of the mountain?
Prayer:
Father, help me to know you as your really are. Help me to know the true and living God who spoke and the universe leapt into existence. You are a holy God, and a loving and just God. Help me to experience you at the top of the mountain, not by my own fleshly attempt, but by your Holy Spirit. In Jesus name, Amen.
