About the Book

Discovering the Creative Impulse results from years of interaction with the arts. The book acknowledges that all humans are creative beings and are not fully human without some involvement in the creative process. Explore the interrelationships extant within the arts through the creative process.

Artworks from music, visual arts, literature, theater, dance, and film are included. Develop a perspective of the arts from the inside, with an awareness of creative processes as integral to human needs, drives, and involvement. Realize the arts as an exaltation of the human spirit, an experience unique to the human experience as a way of knowing and as a way of being.

Belief statements in Discovering the Creative Impulse provide a broad awareness of uniqueness in creativity. Become involved in that process, realizing that creativity is an essential component of human life. The arts draw us into those parts of ourselves where our most urgent questions, thoughts, and desires reside.

About the Author

Harold Popp, Music Professor Emeritus, has spent a lifetime involved in the world of the arts--as an author, composer, conductor, editor, educator, and trombonist. His desire is to share the world of creativity, encouraging individuals to discover their unique voices to express their inner selves and reach an increased level of fulfillment. Involvement in the arts has always been part of Popp’s insatiable drive to share art’s meaning with others. This drive has remained foremost in his fifty-three years of teaching primarily at six universities.
