Bill froze. His heart broke. It had taken him two days to get back to his hut. When he broke through the jungle, instead of seeing his hut, he gazed on a heap of smoldering leaves and wood. Everything he could call his own was gone. His home for the past two years had been reduced to ashes. His possessions consisted of what he had brought with him to town—an extra set of clothes, a water bottle, a pocket knife, and his Bible. He walked to the pile and sank to his knees.
“God? Why? First the phone call, and now this. What am I supposed to do? What am I here for? God, why did You do this to me?” Bill knelt with his head in his hands. “God, I’m at the end of my rope. I can’t take this anymore.”
After a moment, he stood, squared his shoulders, and picked up his bag. “Well, this is it. I guess I just go back to town. Maybe Charlie can find me that job.” He looked to the jungle. A pang coursed through his chest. “God, I do want to be here. I wish You could make a way.”

About the Author
The Morningside Writing Ministry is comprised of multiple authors of varying backgrounds. This Christian ministry is based at Morningside Evangelical Friends Church in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Each author brings to the collection a wide array of fields and expertise, ranging from stay-at-home moms to PhDs. Each member seeks to honor God in his or her writing and his or her personal life. Many of the members within the group not only participate in collective endeavors, but are also pursuing individual writing projects.
