Prayer is the most powerful tool a believer can have. Prayer changes things. You take God on his word and promises for his word is sharper than a two edged sword. Jesus promised not to forsake you or leave you. The power of God does not change for He is the same today, yesterday, and forevermore. Use the model prayer that Jesus gave his disciples.
In Matthew, chapter 6: verses 9-15, Jesus disciples ask him to teach them how to pray. Jesus said “ pray ye our Father which art in heaven. Hollowed be thy name. In other words, He is the only God of the universe. There is no other God before Him. Heaven is his throne and earth is his footstool (Matthew 5:34-35). Holy is your name. Pray and talk to God about your concerns and problems. He is the deliver.
“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven”. The Lord’s will be done on earth as it is in heaven. It is not mankind will. Pray that the Lords’ will be done in your life on earth. God already knows who you are. Are you fulfilling His purpose for your life? You make the connection with God through prayer even when you do not feel like it because of the negative circumstances that are going on in your life. In Jeremiah 1: verse 15, God said, “before I formed thee; and before thou comest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nation.” God already know what you are in need of before you pray.
Give us the day our daily bread. Thank the Lord for another day. Thank the Lord for the bread of life and for supplying all of your needs. Thank Him for the words of life and for speaking life through His word. For your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light into my path. We all are familiar with the Lord’s Prayer and can recite it from memory. Stop, listen, and mediate on the words. Listen with your heart, mind, body, and soul. It will bring tears to your eyes. In Psalm 119:15, it states that I will mediate in thy precepts and have respect unto thy ways. It is not about you. It’s about being a servant for God. We are created for his purpose, For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16).
Whether we like it or not, God is in control, but He is not going to force himself on your will. Remember in the Lord’s Prayer it states, “let your will be done.” Jesus said that it is finish when he died on the cross for us. God is going to have his glory and his will be done. We cannot do anything about it. Sometimes we can be so self absorb with our own needs and forget about serving others. Submit to God and everything else will follow.
How do we know that we are praying according to the will of the Father? The first thing that you need to do is to come to God with a reverent submission, “not as I will but as you will.” Prostrate your heart. Clear and clean your heart. When Jesus prayed, He prayed according to the Father’s will. Throughout the Gospels, Jesus referenced the Father’s will. Recognize God. Stop trying to put God under your command or will.
The second thing that you need to do is pray in faith. Do not doubt. Jesus said in Matthew 17:20 that if ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, remove hence to yonder place and it shall remove; and nothing
shall be impossible unto you. But without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him (Hebrews 11:6). Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all things shall be added unto thee (Matthew 6:33). When I was ill and lost my vision, I could see was shadows. Everyday, I would say, Lord thank you for my eyes. I kept repeating, thank you Lord for my eyes. My vision was restored through the grace and mercy of God. That was my prayer and faith. I knew that God would restore my sight because I recognize who God is and had faith. A prayer can be short and brief; depending on your petition to God. Sometimes you have to have a heart to heart talk with God like Jesus. Create in me a clean hear and renew a right spirit within me. Come clean with God. Tell him everything that is on your heart. In other words confess your sins. The enemy will try to distract a believer from believing what the word of God can do. God has equipped believers with authority and power by the blood of Jesus. We as believers have to take authority through prayer. Prayer changes things and our attitude towards mankind. You will no longer look at people the same way. Stop taking things personal. Look at the situation from a spiritual angle. Sometimes people carry generational spirits that can hinder their walk with Christ.
