I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate. But if I know that what I am doing is wrong, this shows that I agree that the law is good. So I am not the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it. And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t. I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. But if I do what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it.

Notice how God is both kind and severe. He is severe toward those who disobeyed, but kind to you if you continue to trust in his kindness. But if you stop trusting, you also will be cut off.

Once I realized I couldn’t live a sinless life and I got done beating myself every time I failed, I had to accept the fact that Jesus Christ was my only righteousness. When I had the faith to believe that and started trusting in His sacrifice, my salvation became very secure and I found peace with myself and God.

Line upon line, precept upon precept, there is no getting around it. We are made right with God only by His work on the cross at Calvary. Our expectation of perfection by our human effort can only frustrate or even negate God’s perfect plan for our restoration.

P.S. Do you ever fell like your repentance isn't heartfelt enough? That is a sure sign it is! If it wasn’t heartfelt you wouldn’t be worried about it. Don’t let the devil steal your forgiveness, he wants you to feel condemned so you will quit.
