Turtle's Treasure

Upon Turtle's arrival, Owl flew from his nest, to welcome his visitor - the one he knew best. They would talk at length about the forest's condition, including causes for the recent deforestation. All too quickly, dry fields were replacing the trees, along with the habitats of birds, bears, bunnies. How unkind to build one home at another's expense - and leaving trash in the river just did not make sense. Turtle asked why missing trees led to missing lakes - a loss of home not just for bears but also for snakes. Owl explained absent trees brought an absence of rain, as a canopy of leaves must hold in moisture's reign. As Turtle listened, Owl's answers led to more questions, of missing trees, smoggy skies, and river infestation. Of refuse not belonging to the natural water flow. Owl promptly decided to these places they must go. In response to Turtle's search for greater understanding, Owl prepared a trip with departure and landing, by gathering mittens, a hat and scarf for his friend, then taking out a map to chart the course, start to end. Turtle held on tight, as Owl took flight toward the sky; claw in feather they flew, waving to birds flying by. Owl explained to Turtle as they flew through the smog, all the different contributors to the thick fog. Nitrous oxide emitted from car gasoline; sulfur dioxide from coal burned in factories; particulate matter, which is just a fancy term for dust from construction and coal daily burned. Owl shared the smog problem is one that can be fixed, as many places have looked similar to this. Green technologies of all kinds have paved novel ways to grace all kinds of places with clear skies for many days.
