“Micheal, hold the box in the palm of your right hand-right side up!” instructed the ancient one. Obeying, the boy looked at the box-and waited. He felt that something wonderful was about to happen. He was quite right! Quietly, softly, GroBvater began to sing: “Edelweiss, Edelweiss, every morning you greet me! Clean and white, fresh and bright, you look happy to meet me!” Before Micheal’s very eyes, the tiny chest began to open! A seam where there was no seam! A lid where there was no lid! He was frozen in utter amazement as he watched the tiny golden lid open fully to reveal its treasure! It was not dark inside the chest as he had expected. A soft, shimmering blue light came from within. The Heavenly light illuminated the contents of the chest. Micheal knew that he was going to faint!
For there, in his own hand, was a magical golden box which held two pine needles: ONE SILVER AND ONE GOLD!!! He could not speak. He could not move. His only thought was: “It’s true! It’s ALL true!” GroBvater, being immensely pleased, smiled knowingly and lovingly at his beloved grandson.
“Don’t say anything; just listen. By now you know what these are and where they came from. They have been in our family for many generations. Now, they are yours! You are the Chosen One, Micheal! When the time comes, you will know exactly what to do with this magic heirloom. Until then, Guten Nacht, mein Sohn! Ich Liebe Dich!” With that, he turned to leave. As he put his hand on the doorknob, he turned to a speechless Micheal and began to sing softly; “O, Tannenbaum, O, Tannenbaum, Your branches green delight us!” The wondrous miniature chest began to close without a sound! Again; not a sign of an opening anywhere! Grandfather closed the door behind him and left Micheal to stare incredulously at the golden magic heirloom which had just been given to him.
