The lead character in this book has the unlikely name of Normal. He was born a true orphan, having an indigent mother, who died in childbirth. Having been raised by the state, he3 had been placed in many different ethnic foster homes, he learned a lot of different languages. He was blessed with the ability to learn these languages, although he thought for a long time this gift was a curse. After he graduated from high school, and had to make a living for himself, while attending college, he decided it was a blessing. It was one of the ways he supported himself. While working and going to college, he come to the decision to save his money, and take retirement, a little at a time.
One of his main objectives was to see the United States in its entirety. He did just that and at the end of the first adventure he found himself in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Here he made the acquaintance of a man he came to respect, and think of as his surrogate grandfather. Although he had read the Bible from the time he was old enough to read, and he had attended church regularly, it was not until he lived with Mr. Talbot for 3 ½ years, that he came to understand the deep meaning of the Bible.
It was at this time that Mr. Talbot was killed during a home invasion gone wrong. This is when this book begins. He had not only changed his identity, he had also obtained a law degree. This was due to Mr. Talbot being a lawyer, and him having so much respect for Mr. Talbot. At Mr. Talbot’s death, he found that he had inherited Mr. Talbot’s home and his law practice. Having experienced this kind of stress at the tender age of 26, he found that he didn’t handle it well. His secretary realized that he needed a bit of his retirement so he could recoup.
He was approached by a potential client to look into a legal matter for him, and he found that this would take him to New England, and this decided would fulfilled his desire to see the United States of America. At the successful conclusion of the case, he was able to rack up a lot of billable hours for his firm, which made his secretary, happy. As he explored New England, he became a more serious Bible student and learned an awful lot about the beginning of our great nation.
When he had concluded his New England bit of retirement and return to Philadelphia, he found he was to have a lot more complications in his life. He discovered that having friends was as good as he had imagined having a family would be. He realized his deep need to share his belief in God. He found out that sometimes even your best friends were not as easy to share with as he had imagined they would be.
He that most people wanted to believe in God, and wanted to be his child, and receive the blessings they believed it would provide. What they didn’t want to believe is that you had to obey God’s word to receive these blessings. This presented him with a very big dilemma web site.
Author's notes and credits
I would like to thank so many people that have been an encouragement to me, and have been patient with me as I tried to tell my story. I’m sure I was a pest so many times.
I especially want to thank my sister, Sue Bevis, for all her help in correcting me and asking the right questions. It seems to me at one time or other that I got encouragement from my entire family, which is actually quite extensive. I would also like to think a fellow author Lonnie Coker, for all of his encouragement.
It goes without saying I thank my publisher and all the staff who helped me. Most of all I thank the God of the Bible whose Word is infallible and is the judge of all our actions while here on this earth.
Yours in the Love of Christ; Joe C. Turner
