I remember walking out of that clinic thinking, something else was wrong. I remember the internal conflict in my mind about whether I was being an overprotective mom or whether the Holy Spirit was telling me to keep searching. Because I was new to the area, my pastor gave me a recommendation for a local pediatrician. I thought it wouldn’t hurt to get a second opinion, so we immediately went to see the new doctor. As I walked through the doors of this pediatric office, I felt a sense of hope that maybe the doctor could help my son feel better. The doctor stated that he had pneumonia, and he was given stronger medicine. We were also instructed to return if the fever didn’t go away during the weekend. Feeling confident that we had a correct diagnosis, we headed home, and the descent into our valley began.

It all started March 6, 2012, as author Gina Davis sent her two children off to school—nine-year-old Eli and seven-year-old Elisha. Eli had a small cough, but not enough to concern his mother. But that symptom was just the beginning of a long journey during which Davis would rely more than ever on her faith in God. In Hope Climbs, she recounts the days and nights as Eli battled a rare disease that doctors found hard to diagnose. This story journeys into the valley and gives insight into a mother’s heart as she watches her son die before her eyes. She tells this story of a son’s struggle to live and a mother’s struggle to find hope. About the Author
Gina Davis is a wife and a stay at home mom of two amazing children. She and her husband Richie have been married for 25 years. They ran a very successful dental practice and founded a non-profit organization, Beyond Religion Ministries. They have traveled to over 12 different nations working in remote medical clinics, construction projects and loving on orphans all over the world.
