"You look sad." Bill was slumped at the counter of the Silver Saddle Bar in Potlatch, Idaho, gazing at a bottle of beer in front of him. His eyes shifted to the mirror behind the counter and watched the reflection of a young woman as she sat down on a stool beside him. Was she another acquaintance that expected him to remember her? He came back to Princeton and Potlatch to see familiar faces, which would be familiar ony if he knew them before 1965. Six years of his life had been wiped away because of the accident, and he was dog-tired facing each day in Great Falls, Montana, pretending to recognize acquaintances and to know what they were tallking about. To him, he was 18, not 26, and ready to graduate from high school in Potlatch, Idaho . . . "I've been watching you," she said. You're really good with those hooks. What happened to you?" "I got electrocuted." "You survived the electric chair, so they let you out, huh?" She giggled but stopped and cleared her throat. "Sorry. Bad joke." "Oh, you were joking? I thought you must have been a spectator."

About the Book
Bill ran for sheriff; looked for missing children; got attacked by a pimp, dogs, moose, and a bear; built a cabin in the mountains; and played his keyboard across the country and in the White House—with hooks for hands.
On May 11, 1971, Bill Rasmussen was a twenty-four-year-old country bumpkin who was painting from the roof of a building when thirteen thousand volts of electricity from a power line entered his body through his hands and exited through his upper legs. Three months later, he awakened with six years of memory erased and a wife, child, and a parole officer he didn’t recognize.
While unconscious, he repeatedly heard the question, “Are you ready?” and a powerful urgency he couldn’t shake stalked him to find the answer to that question. He didn’t know God very well; nor did he know that God was about to take him on a forty-year journey full of mind-boggling, exciting, and catastrophic adventures—before he would find the answer to that question.
About the Author
Charlene wanted to write since a grade-school teacher submitted a story she wrote in class when she was supposed to be doing an assignment. In 1980, she received a certificate in children’s literature and wrote a book of short stores and a manuscript. In 1966, she married a schoolteacher who had contracted three strains of polio, which left him a quadriplegic. He passed away in 2005. During those forty years, she was an instructor at a business college. When she retired, she opened her home to foster care for elders and handicapped people. In 2010, she married Bill Rasmussen, who had lost his hands in 1971. They are now entertaining the seniors throughout the Northwest. He plays the keyboard, and she sings and does ventriloquist skits. They are now building a home on a mountain near Plummer, Idaho.
