Almost Sold

I am an average American girl. Growing up, my life included things like church on Sundays, fireworks on the fourth of July, and the neighborhood swim team. I was a shy extrovert who wanted adventure, but also wanted to please my parents and teachers. I was a rule follower in general, though I did have one "wild child" adventure in high school… I snuck out one night with my best friend to see a band play in a bar/sandwich shop named Ducky’s, where we decided to have our first cigarette.
I was so worried about being caught, I never snuck out again. I had good friends, made A’s and B’s in school, and was in student council. After high school, I went to an average private Christian college. I joined a sorority and volunteered at a nursing home. 2 months after graduating from college, I found myself caught in my closest thing to hell on earth.
What happened? How could this have happen? How did I, average sweet Christian girl, find myself completely alone in an unfamiliar city- hurt from consistent sexual and mental abuse meant to obliterate my self-will, with a man I hated and feared? How did the girl who still had pink walls and lace curtains at her parent’s house get to such a dark place? How did my reality actually become the question of if I would be sold in a foreign country, or die?
