Just Existing
I can remember walking in a blinding haze
exhausted and grumbling through my days
self involved, proud and upright
everything must be perfect
everything must be just right
Aiming to impress
striving to be the best
Did I stop to smell flowers
or really listen to the birds sing
did I ever ask anyone
can I do anything
Maybe I asked someone how are you today
but did I stop long enough to hear what they had to say
when coming upon a homeless person asking for help
did I offer my service
or assume he could help himself
Saturdays and Sundays were the best
for catching up on my reading
for catching up on my rest
Yet, I was allowed to discover one unsuspecting day
how quickly, profoundly brevity could come my way
and I forever thank you for saving my life
I love you, my lord, my savior Jesus Christ

Upon receiving your grace, the indwelling of your presence rocked the foundation of my life. Since then, with never a single moment of doubt, I've known who you are.
