Let’s take a closer look at the Scriptures. God’s intention in forming the woman was to give the man a “help” meet for him [Gen. 2:18 KJV]. Consider two words – “help” and “meet”. She is a help. Not a maid, who having been bogged down with household chores, groceries and child cares, must still fulfill her wifely duty in satisfying the man in bed; with the man doing little or nothing in the house. The layman understanding of “help” is to assist by joining one already in some task do the same. Note, that the one needing help is already performing the task before asking for help, or before the help is given. Hence, if our wives are a “help” to us from God, then it means we are already doing the things for which they would help us. With this truth, how then can we segregate family tasks to those for men and women? It therefore points to the conclusion that the man must be involved in everything in the home…and needing help, the women then comes in. Men, you cannot sit in the Sitting room watching football while your wife single-handedly prepares the children for school for example.
The picture of the High priest in Israel readily comes to mind when I consider this huge role and responsibility upon a Man in a home. This, to me, is the first and foremost duty of a man

About the Author
Being the second and last child of his parent, J.N. Cisse had a firsthand experience of the stringent challenges associated with child upbringing in a single-parent home. He recalls his own experiences and cannot but lift his heart in thanksgiving to God Almighty, whose hand of providence was not absent in his growing up, despite the rocky journey, and has brought him to a place of stability, love, and strength.
Being a father of two, he has come to see the inherent beauty and profound wisdom the Creator had by building the basic unit of society, the family, on two pillars … and the enormous role placed on the shoulders of the head of every household. He therefore deeply appreciates this wisdom in achieving a worthy life, bringing up children, and positively impacting to society.
Currently living and working in Nigeria’s Delta, the Lord in His mercy opened his eyes to see the root cause of the region’s problems and how to sidestep the snare.
