When someone first joins a sorority, they stress over and over again that this is a lifetime commitment. In other words, they don’t even want members to think of getting out because that means their secrets will be getting out too. With this in mind, and after two years with the sorority, I was beginning to feel boxed in. The relationship, morals and values of the sorority were not giving me anything in return. It was just taking and I wanted out. This was not a reciprocating agreement between me and the sorority, and I was beginning to feel the burden of it. At this point, I have had it with frustrations and lack of seeing progress to any measurable amount, sizable enough for me to see, or even imagine. I was mentally and physically exhausted.
There were times when I was so stressed out that whenever someone would mention the name of the sorority, I would immediately stress out and be unhappy. I didn’t want to wear the letters anymore, I wasn’t proud to be a member of the sorority because I felt like was a slave worker for the organization. I remember walking around campus and watching “normal” individuals happy and free. As I see this I said to myself I wish I could be like them, I wish I was free. Little did I know my spirit was crying for help on the inside. I wanted out. In this next section, I want to back up for a moment and describe the meeting that I had with some of the members, and how this was the first step in the process of me restoring my freedom again.

About the Book
Stepping Out of Line shares in great detail my personal account of what it is like to be in a predominantly African-American sorority and what it is like to denounce from one. Many who are not in a sorority or fraternity do not see what goes on behind closed doors. There is more to it than fame and brotherhood. It is a spiritual battle. Stepping Out of Line provides a Christian perspective and brings light to the areas of darkness in sororities and fraternities. If you are thinking about joining a sorority, this book is for you. If you are thinking about denouncing or validating your reason to stay in a sorority or fraternity, this book is also for you. Stepping Out of Line provides a needed outlook on sororities and fraternities. It encourages you to think about what God says about this topic and whether or not being a part of a Greek lettered organization is pleasing in His sight.
About the Author
C.C. Rose is a devoted Christian who enjoys reading and spreading the Word of God. Rose is a former sorority member and through this experience has gained knowledge about what happens behind the closed doors of a sorority. She had the opportunity of becoming president of a local chapter at the university she attended. This experience opened her eyes to many areas of secrecy and concern within sororities and fraternities. After her decision to denounce membership of the sorority, C.C. Rose earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and has been focusing heavily on her gift of writing for the past four years. C.C. Rose now focuses on sharing her testimony to inspire those to look at the membership of a sorority or fraternity through Christian lenses. C.C. Rose has a thirst for knowledge, especially for the word of God and it is her mission to share this passion combined with writing worldwide.
