Look Into My Heart
Look into my heart,
Great Cardiologist*
What will you see?
Fleshly desires,
Carnality?
Greed, lust
Covetousness?
Or contentment, joy
Peaceful trust.
If you go deep into the chambers
of my heart
What will you find?
Locked gates lurking in the dark,
‘No trespassing’ signs?
Locked bars
Tightly snapped in place
Pieces of rubble—charred
Among the shame and disgrace.
Failures left in disarray
Shipwrecked intentions
Along the way
I lay it on the altar
On the mercy of the court
To your throne, I crawl
Having been off course.
Bleeding from the wounds of
Discontent
Love abandoned--desires unspent.
Look a little deeper
To discover
Pirates’ treasures refined by fire
Spiritual stability
None to conspire
Strength of character--
Coming up higher.
*Jesus is the Great Physician and therefore Heart Doctor.

About the Book
Echoes of Reality speaks not so much to the beauty of nature as the agony of the soul. Behind the luscious rose, there’s the prickly thorns of reality, like the wisdom revealed in these parabolic poems. Within are poems that tell a story, metaphoric poems, villanelles, and free verse, and a couple of prose poems. Several pieces of W. Cornelson’s artwork is included as well.
1 Corinthians 10:13 NKJV: No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
We all go through similar trials. This is part of the message I want to convey.

Wonna Elam Cornelson has had several articles published over the years in different media. She is happily married and has one beloved son who also enjoys music and songwriting. She also enjoys writing stories and Bible studies and singing gospel music at several local churches and events. They live in Oklahoma.
