SOUL CHOICES
Now whoever came up with the idea of a mirror did us a great service or a great injustice. It just depends on who is looking in the mirror. Don’t you agree? But one thing we can say is that Mrs. Mirror surely tells the truth about how we look every time.
I prefer Mrs. Mirror any day than to step on Mr. Scales who delights saying one thing one day, and something else the next day. I dislike that forked tongue scales with a passion.
Then there is God’s Book. It’s a mirror, a scale and a measuring stick. A three in one deal. You and I could never go wrong if we follow the instructions. I hope that this section will somehow help to steer or keep you and me going in the right direction.
I hear young people asking the following questions over and over again.
Is there a real live God? Does He care about me? Where is God when I need Him? Why am I here? Why do people die? People say God is love then why does God allow wars and allows babies to be killed? Is there a heaven? What happens when I die? And the questions go on and on! I dare say that if anyone really wants to find the answers they are looking for they only have to read the Bible which I believe is God’s Holy Word, and God cannot lie.
It may be that some folks reading this book may desire to know the answer to these very questions themselves. Let’s take a look.
The Bible tells us that in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Everything in the heavens and on the earth God made and there was nothing made without Him that was made. Likewise God created man in His own image, three in one, Soul, Spirit, and Body. “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…….So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female, he created them” Genesis chapter 1 - 2.
Genesis 2:7 tells us that the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground. (BODY) and breathe into his nostrils the breath of life, (SPIRIT) and man became a living soul (SOUL). Thus in the image of God ‘three in one’ He created man and woman. In the likeness of God, but we are not gods, as some would have us believe.
Just to argue a little bit here. If we were created as gods, then Adam and Eve would never have committed a sin when they disobeyed their Creator God. For God is perfect and holy, and they would not be able to do anything wrong.
Now let us take some time and reason a little more for ourselves. If disobedience was not wrong, why did God send his created Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden after they disobeyed God’s command? God specifically told the man and woman “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat: but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
But then Satan, that old serpent comes along and enticed them to eat the fruit of that very tree and disobey their God and Creator? They ate that forbidden fruit that God told them not to eat, and as a result of that first act of disobedience by our fore parents, we all inherit that sinful nature from the very moment of our conception? We are not sinners because we commit sin, but because we are born sinners. Psalm 51:5.
Let us reason a little further. Adam and Eve are our fore-parents. And down through the ages as each person is born into this world, we all do the same things like our parents did. And sad to say, we cannot get rid of that sinful nature by ourselves no matter how hard we try to be good.
Why do we want our children to obey us, and when they do not obey us, we think they deserve to be punished? Does it not look like an inheritance thing? We did the very things our children do, and even as adults many of us still do things that we regret afterwards.
Furthermore, do we like our children and other people better when they disobey, cheat, lie, steal, curse, rebel, murder, etc? Why not? Why make such a big deal when our children or other people do these things? Are these not good behavior patterns to follow? You decide. It only proves that God’s Word the Holy Bible is true. Creation is true and belongs to God. Evolution is false and belongs to Satan.
I also conclude. If we say that we are gods ourselves, then we must be evil gods, and very sinful, and deserve to be punished, for every one of us lies, cheats, hate, grumble, covets etc. at some point of our lives. Show me anyone who has never done anything wrong, and that will be proof enough for me that he or she is not a god.
Therefore because of this very fact, we should clearly understand that we need Jesus Christ, God’s perfect only begotten Son to save us from our evil selves. Don’t you agree?
So here we are, with no exceptions, we are all born with inherited sin, and sin must be punished. This is the judgment we must flee from. Our only hope is in Christ Jesus. Because God created the world and He loves every one of His creation. Christ is the only one who could save the world from God’s wrath and eternal punishment for sin, which is still to come. Think about it if you have any doubts.
Bottom line! It has been proven, we cannot save ourselves. The cycle of sin continues and we cannot stop it whether we think we are gods or not. But God offers salvation to all who believe. And that is the gospel truth.
