We traveled 'long that sun-beat road,
Our bodies sore and bent,
And finally viewing distantly
Damascus, our intent.
But suddenly around me shone
A light from heav'n so bright,
It blazed beyond the sun's full strength,
And shattered all my sight.
And blind, I tumbled to the ground,
I heard but could not see
The One who spoke my name and said,
"Why persecutest me?"

And deeply then I knew at last
The pain and misery,
So ever present in my life
Were meant to chasten me,
That as I served in all good faith
A God of wrath and awe,
'Twas all his Law I loved but not
The Giver of the Law.

About the Book
The book of Acts is no doubt the most action-filled book in the Bible. Vasquez has highlighted the events in each of the twenty-eight chapters in elegant, rhymed literature, faithfully telling the story found in each chapter.
About the Author
James Vasquez served as a missionary in Latin America and holds an MDiv from Fuller Seminary and PhD from UCLA. He retired from the University of Washington faculty and has published six books of poetry, based on persons and accounts in the Bible.
