One evening while Leann was helping Aunt Cora feed the chickens, Leann exclaimed, “Aunt Cora, you have all kinds of chickens!”
“Oh yes,” her Aunt agreed, “We have hens – these are the ones that lay the eggs; and over here we have the roosters. These are the ones that say ‘cock-a- doodle-do’. The hens and roosters are the mamas and daddies. And we have the pullets – these are like the teenagers. Then we have the baby chicks called biddies. Which one do you like?”
Standing in the middle of a big crowd of chickens, Leann answered, “I like the baby chicks. I can hold them in my hands and pet them because they are so soft and cute and cuddly!”

About the Book
Uncle Jerdon’s Farm takes us to a time when families found happiness in the simple things in life. Leann enjoys spending time on the farm with her uncle Jerdon and aunt Cora. Uncle Jerdon makes life on the farm lots of fun for Leann. She is amused by the simple things, such as milking the cows and watching the pigs tumble in the mud. She loves taking her doll, Lizzie, with her on hayrides, making shadow puppets at the barn, listening to her uncle’s many wonderful stories while cracking and eating walnuts in the autumn sun, or sitting with him at the barn as he plays song after song on his accordion. Leann’s excitement grows as she finds new adventures each day with Uncle Jerdon.
About the Author
Marion D. Woods, a former farm girl, weaves together the compelling tale of Uncle Jerdon’s Farm. Born on a farm in North Carolina, Marion uses her keen insight and wit to bring together the magic of history and the timeless tranquility of many of the activities that Leann enjoys on the farm. Prior to becoming a writer, Marion owned a beauty salon for more than twenty years. After receiving her associate in applied science degree, she taught cosmetology for fifteen years. She enjoys working with children, listening to music, crocheting, and participating in many church activities such as singing in the church choir.
