…Both cars were about fifty meters away from the railway crossing.

The caution lights by the crossing blinked red. The red and white barrier was already down and cars on the opposite lane queued behind the barrier. The blare from the approaching Y'Isra railway corporation train grew louder. Jay patted Nate on his shoulder.

“We can make it through,” he said.

Nate engaged the fifth gear, slammed on the accelerator and stopped swerving, widening the distance between the Sprinter and the Dodge. About twenty meters from the railway, Nate realized they wouldn't make it through. He stepped on the brakes but the brakes didn’t hold.

“Do not panic. Keep going.” Jay reassured him.

Pete tried to calculate the distance between the approaching rail tracks and the Sprinter. Panic made him dizzy. "Jay, we can't make it!" He screamed.

“That’s right Pete, Math and physics won't figure this out!” Jay yelled back at him.

Nate shut his eyes involuntarily.

Back in the Dodge truck, the driver, sick with fear, warned the burly passenger. “We are all going to die!” He yelled.

“Step on the gas!” The passenger responded. “If they can make it, so can we!”

The frustrated and scared driver hesitated and moved his foot to the brake pedal, but instantly changed his mind when the attacker pointed the double-barreled shotgun at him.

The Sprinter was five Meters away from the rail tracks. Everyone in the Sprinter shut their eyes and braced themselves for the collision. But Jay kept his eyes fixed on the road ahead. The Dodge truck rammed into the Sprinter from behind at the same time that the cargo train driver’s cabin came into view.

The train cleared the blockade of trees that flanked the millet field. The train's captain and his conductor saw two mad or drunk drivers heading for the railway crossing. The captain pulled the brakes but it was too late.

The Sprinter’s fender hit the metal crossing barrier and slipped through without any obvious impact. There was silence everywhere. Silence in the Sprinter and in the captain's cabin. Pete opened his eyes to see the cabin of the train in a blur. He saw the captain and his conductor staring wide eyed. Then he blanked out.

The Sprinter mechanics merged with the train cabin. A vortex of perpendicular forces was formed. For a split-second, the Sprinter and the captain's cabin were one. Only Jay saw this split-second transition because the conductor and the driver fainted and every other person in the Sprinter was screaming with shut eyes.

When the Sprinter merged with the cabin of the cargo train, the Dodge driver stepped on the brakes. He didn’t care if he died by the bullet, which he preferred to the imminent collision. But the Dodge was too close to avoid impact with the crossing barrier, though he swerved.

The last thing he saw was the shock on the attacker’s face as he watched the Sprinter go right through the train cabin.

And the last thing the driver heard was, “Impossi--”

The fender of the truck connected with the crossing barrier and it flipped forward, landing on the first tank on the train. The cargo train was headed for the South-Circle IOC Sub-station. It was carrying thirty tanks of diesel.

Upon collision the tanks exploded in quick succession.

The Sprinter landed on the other side of the railway crossing, as the tanks exploded behind them. When everyone in the Sprinter opened their eyes, they were shocked to see the train's captain and his conductor inside the Sprinter; they lay on the sprinter floor, passed out.

After a good distance, Nate stepped on the brakes and the brakes connected. He looked at his side mirror to confirm that they made it through. He saw the tanks exploding behind them. Tremors rocked the ground. Road users on the opposite lane scampered to safety while some recorded the incident with their phones.

The train's captain and his conductor came to. Both of them stared blankly at the ceiling.

“This doesn’t look like heaven,” the train driver muttered.

“Your journey on earth has just begun,” Jay told him.
