Day Twenty Two -- Can’t Believe…
God wants to be glorified in our difficult situations. That’s when we have an opportunity to share with others that our breakthrough, transformation, or overcoming had nothing to do with us. Today you will read about three different scenarios wherein individuals faced tremendous times of unbelief. I pray you glean something from their
In 2011, I met an educator when I was working as an independent contractor for an Easter Seals Early Learning Center in Atlanta. We talked while the children napped and she shared that she was a widow. You too may be single because of an unexpected death of your child’s parent. That’s what happened to Mrs. Thompson.
Mrs. Thompson first met her husband in elementary school. As the years passed, they became friends; they married when she was 27 and he was 29. They had two children, a girl then a boy. They were doing very well in Los Angeles. However, one day her husband was driving and had a fatal automobile accident.
I am certain there must have been days when Mrs. Thompson thought to herself, I can’t believe he’s gone; how am I going to raise our children without him? I asked her, “How did you handle his death?” She said, “With much prayer.” There would be days when she would just cry, cry, cry. She was concerned how her children would handle the loss of their father. Then she shared an amazing story about her son. Her son was about 15 months old when his father died. Her daughter was 3 years and 3 months old. Shortly after her husband went to be with the Lord, she was preparing dinner and her son kept laughing at the dinner table. She was perplexed as to what was so funny. She finally asked him, “What is so funny?” He replied, “The angel, Mommy, the angel!” Mrs. Thompson could not see the angel; however she is a woman of faith. From that moment onward, she knew everything would be okay with her children. She realized God was going to take care of them and He did. I guess you could say her son was touched by an angel!
I realize some of you may not believe in angels; however they truly do exist. The Bible cites numerous times when God used angels. When Jacob fled from Laban in Genesis 31 an angel of the Lord spoke to Jacob and told him God saw how Laban was treating him. The angel told Jacob to flee and return to the land of his family. Then in 2 Samuel 24, God sent judgment upon David’s sin by sending a plague of death upon Israel and 70,000 men died. In verse 16, the angel stretched out his hand over Jerusalem to destroy it, the Lord relented from the destruction, and said to the angel who was destroying the people, “It is enough, now restrain your hand.” In Numbers 22¬24 we have the story about Balak who sent for Balaam because he wanted Balaam to curse Balak’s enemies. However Balaam would only do what the Lord approved and God wanted his enemies to be blessed. As Balaam went with the princes of Moab, God’s anger arose against Balaam and the angel of the Lord stood in a narrow path. So when Balaam’s donkey tried to passed, the donkey stopped because he could see the angel of the Lord with the sword in his hand for anyone who passed the pathway. The donkey refused to pass and Balaam spanked him three times until finally the donkey spoke to him. Then God open Balaam’s eyes and he could now see why the donkey would not continue. Lastly, in Matthew 1:20 an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.” All of these are unbelievable events, but God was faithful and sovereign in each situation, and He is sovereign in yours too.
Prior to marrying in 2000, I had a life-changing experience that caused me to change the way I cared for my body. My doctor found a knot in my chest the size of a pea. I couldn’t believe this was happening to me at this point of my life. Surgery was not an option, from my perspective. My heart’s desire was NOT to be hospitalized and cut. So I prayed and asked God for healing. The Lord led me to a friend who was able to direct me to an African gentleman who made tonics in Atlanta. I researched tonics, prayed, and bought the tonic, which had only herbs in it. When I began taking it, my body started detoxifying and eczema broke out on my face. I reduced the dosage to avoid having my body detoxify so quickly, for I was to be married in a month. It took me about two months to finish the 16-ounce bottle. It smelled awful: I had to hold my nose when I took it in order to keep from regurgitating. Finally the tonic was gone; the lump was no longer there; and the mammogram proved the tonic worked. This scared me straight into a better way of eating. I thanked the Lord for wisdom. My two lifestyle changes included no longer wearing bras with underwire since my lump was right where the wire would stop under my left breast; then, I also stopped using conventional deodorant since I learned the aluminum and chemicals in most deodorants are toxic to our body.
Lastly, I talked with a young lady at church named Sister Deborah who I’ve watched minister to the congregation from the worship team for about 8 years. She was diagnosed with Ductal Carcinoma in situ (DCIS)
