It turns out that one cannot deny the truth of God’s existence without deleting truth itself. Therefore one can never make an argument against God in the form of any truth statement whatsoever. The affirmation “There is no God!” appeals to God Himself as the only possible standard for truth. Truth is hard to sidestep; and the atheist will always act inconsistently here. He lives as if there is objective truth, but his philosophy makes no room for it.
It turns out that one may not reasonably use reason to deny God’s existence, since to do so destroys the very foundation upon which reason rests. Apart from God there is no rational base for thought and thus no rational reason to believe one’s conclusions. Until the atheist can find a better support for rational thought than evolution, he logically needs to cease his pointless struggle against God.
It turns out that all moral arguments to eradicate God are futile, for God Himself is the only conceivable foundation of morality. As noted earlier, all denunciation is based upon a moral structure which the atheist’s worldview cannot sustain. He is hopelessly backed into a corner in which he must either accept the source of morality, which immediately destroys his position; or he must acknowledge that his worldview offers no moral base, in which case he has no right to make his accusations.
It turns out that science, the last bastion of the atheist’s defense, is taken from him, since science depends upon truth and reason. If there is no objective truth, there is no science; and if there is no true rationality, no truth is discoverable. Science began in a Christian matrix in which truth and reason were objective realities; and the early scientists knew that they were using their minds to explore a road over which a greater Mind had traveled. The atheist needs to be honest enough to admit that science as we know it could never have originated within a worldview which denies a viable base for truth and reason.
It turns out, therefore, that the atheist can never defend his philosophy on the basis of truth, nor rationality, nor morality, nor science. Indeed, he has founded a flawed worldview on absolutely nothing. And honest atheists will need to acknowledge that their philosophy is based only upon wishful thinking and a clear distaste for God. One may not like the idea of a Supreme Being who sees all, knows all, and presides over the affairs of nature and life. Even so, we cannot be rid of Him just because we don’t want to deal with Him. As we sometimes tell our children, “Reality is reality; and sooner or later you will need to grow up and face the real world.” I’m very much aware that atheists have long held that with their worldview man has at last “come of age.” In truth, however, their worldview is the quintessential of pretense and immaturity. The atheist is very much like the angry adolescent who is still struggling to find himself.
It turns out that human value is determined by the image of God within us and is not just a measure dependent upon community consensus or economic production. This means that the very young (even the fetus) and the very old are equal with the middle-aged producer. We tend to forget that the cherished doctrine of human equality can be found only “under God” and cannot be otherwise maintained. It is our humanity and not our production that gi
