Page 1 - My name is Emma Pearl, and I was a flower girl at my big sister Molly’s wedding. That was a big day for the Pearl family, and there is a story behind it. Usually, the flower girl’s job is to be pretty, and walk down the aisle before the bride making the pathway pretty with gently tossed flower petals. But in my case, I had to save the whole wedding! Page 17 - Well, I couldn’t just sit there and do nothing. “Look’s like it’s up to me to save the wedding,” I thought. I went to Molly’s room, gently opened the door, and went over to her and gave her a hug. I kept my arms around her while she cried for a while. Then I asked her a question. Page 18 - “Are you crying because we are poor?” I was afraid of what she might say. She hugged me tight. “No, I don’t think we’re poor, exactly. But I know we aren’t rich. I guess I never thought much about money before because Mom and Dad always made sure we had everything we needed.” I stayed quiet and let Molly talk. “I think I’m crying for a lot of reasons,” she said. “I’m crying because I never realized money was an issue.” “I’m crying because I love Mom and Dad so much, and I don’t want them to feel bad.” “I’m crying because I’m embarrassed that I got so full of myself that I told all my friends what a great big party it would be. And because I forgot that Patrick had said he just wanted a small wedding, and I ignored his wishes and started planning a big one.” Page 24 - And we did. For the next several months, it seemed like all we ever talked about was the wedding. Our new goal was to have an intimate, elegant celebration. Molly and Patrick decided on a small wedding party with just a maid of honor, a best man, a ring bearer, and a flower girl. That’s me, of course. We came up with a much smaller guest list. We reserved at date at our church. We went shopping and helped Molly find a beautiful vintage wedding dress. We visited the craft store for ideas and supplies to make my flower basket, table centerpieces, and party favors.
