Overcoming Obstacles
“To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne.” Revelation 3:21
Everyone has obstacles that need to be overcome: health issues, family issues, learning disabilities, emotional battles. Whatever your obstacles are, God is right there trying to help you overcome them. He will give you the strength and perseverance to break bad habits and make wise decisions, to seek out healthy relationships and push through man-made barriers that prevent you from being the mighty Christ warrior that He wants you to be.
Summer is a great time to do some self-evaluation. Sit down with a trusted friend and ask some of those hard questions, such as, “What do you see as an obstacle in my life right now?” Be prepared to be accountable with that friend in helping to overcome that obstacle; set goals over the summer to help you overcome those stumbling blocks.
A warning: be sure that when you meet that goal and overcome that obstacle, you don’t create an attitude of “I did this all by myself.” It’s so easy to fall into. When we take credit for God’s work in our lives, we start to look within ourselves to overcome problems. Pride results in a terrible fall. Don’t let your obstacles cause you to fall into self-pride.
Lord, help me to be an “overcomer,” and not fall.
