The Runaway

The wind was blowing hard, making the sharp branches of the trees whip around and lash at each other when she woke up. Looking around the dust and web filled room, Rachael suddenly heard a piercing cry from around the back wall outside the cabin. Jumping out of the hammock, she threw open the door and dashed out towards the back of the cabin to investigate. She tripped over some fallen branches as she ran into the wind blasts and noticed a large mound in the ground that appeared to be an open grave. Curious, she made her way towards the mound that wasn't all the way filled in, and looked over the edge into a deep hole.
Horrified, she jumped back when she saw a partially covered old wood coffin-like box that had a large caved-in hole on its top. Suddenly, as if hit by a large hand on her back, a huge gust of wind slammed into her and knocked her down onto the dirt pile next to the grave. She felt herself slowly sliding over the crumbling edge into the hole towards the rotting coffin. Gasping in horror and scraping her fingers which were grasping handfuls of dirt, she continued to slide on the loose dirt and fell, screaming onto the coffin, caving it in. The dirt from the walls started falling all around her, faster and faster as she struggled to get up.
A large, bony hand with strips of rotting flesh hanging from it, reached out and grabbed her by the leg and started to pull her even deeper. She stood up in the coffin and screamed as the bottom of the coffin began to crumble away and she felt herself slide deeper through the rotted corpse's inside and out through the bottom of the coffin. She clung to the ruined sides of the coffin as a huge gaping pit appeared below her, revealing flames leaping up towards her. Rachael started clawing at the sides and kicked her feet in her frantic struggle to keep from falling into the roaring flames below. Eerie laughter floated up from under her, calling to her to let go, as she struggled even harder to escape from the pit of fire.
The smell of sulfur and rotted flesh invaded her nostrils as she gasped for air, and with one last horrific scream, she felt herself finally let go and fall deeper, and deeper, and deeper...
“God! Help me!” she screamed out loud.
