We have taken the beautiful gifts of God and blown them in excess on ourselves and no longer seek the Giver of the gift, just the gifts. We went to extremes and abused the gifts of God; we used the gifts for ourselves instead of His glory and His body. Some people did goofy things in their flesh and called them gifts of God. There were phonies, frauds and flakes tossing around the precious gifts of God like cheap toys and used them for their own gain. Then we had people take sides; we had others take shots and others that took a stab at trying sort it out. Some had to part fellowship with them and denominations began to spring up and the gifts were branded to certain radicals and denominations and it got pretty messy from there. To protect us all from ourselves we had to stop talking about the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit so we could sit down and have a cup of Joe without getting in to a fight and parting fellowship. Perhaps you think it silly, I agree, however I think that today, Satan is lying in the fetal position laughing at us pausing only to say, “Watch them try to do this in their flesh!”

About the Book
The Church was put here to do the work of ministry but somehow we have gotten off course. We spent decades arguing among ourselves about everything from our naval, the rapture, hymns versus choruses and eternal security while the devil laughs his butt off. In the meantime, abortion became legal, evolution became fact, living together became a way of life and the divorce rate in the church became higher than in the world. Hell risks being over-crowded, the homeless starve, young girls are sold as sex slaves and the church has become irrelevant. I don't believe this is what Christ had in mind when He gave His life on the cross of Calvary.

Mark Heikkila has been involved in church ministries in a variety of roles for over 20 years. He is the co-founder and public voice for White Garment District.
