Joy looked at Jewel with flinty eyes. She was supporting her husband’s weight at the moment and a good thing to otherwise we would have had a cat fight to break up.
“Help me to sit down dear, I need to rest. Please don’t do something you regret later.”
Joy and I helped Ivan to sit down. Then Jewel did something unexpected. She walked over to where Joy was and knelled down in front of her with her head bowed and her eyes downcast. She did not speak a word but simply stretched her arms over her head and offered her sword to Joy. I froze where I was standing next to Ivan. The Exiters stood there sternly not moving. Joy took the sword by the hilt and unshed it with her right hand. She walked ever so slowly behind Jewel and placed the naked steal against my wife’s neck.

About the Author
My name is Filip Brunner, and I love science fiction and I love my Lord Jesus. My wife Kim and I have six wonderful children, three girls and three boys. The Jewel Chronicles originated as a challenge by my eldest daughter, Helen. When I was finished with it, she complained, “That’s it? Where is the rest of it?” That statement challenged me to write a clean and hopefully God-honoring series of books.
We live in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I am originally from Czechoslovakia, which makes me an import. I am a member of the International High IQ Society, and I hold an undergraduate degree in theology. We are active members of Oakwood Baptist Church.
