Though I did not understand all that the men were talking about, the rising and falling of their voices conveyed concern and fear. Whatever hurt my Daddy was an enemy to me as well. I slipped my hand into his as we watched the men put on their caps and go out into the night. We stood silent for a few moments, framed in the kitchen door, looking up at the canopy of stars. They were like a million twinkling eyes all focused on us.
Daddy sighed, “Pretty ain’t it?”
“Yeah.” I nodded, though I felt small and vulnerable, like every secret I held dear was being whispered from star to star.
He looked tired and worried, but he winked at me and took a playful swat at my bottom. “Why aren’t you in bed?”
“What does it mean? Are we in debt? Will we have to move?” I had a lump in my throat the size of a cat’s eye marble.
“We’ll be OK, Skeeter. This has been Beor land for almost a hundred years. Where there‘s a will, there‘s a way.”
I was so proud of Daddy; I felt my heart would burst. He could make things happen. If he said it was so; it was so.

Growing up in a farm culture, she has witnessed radical changes not only in technology but also in spiritual, and social values that have altered the way people process ideas and manage their lives. Her link to the past and understanding of spiritual principles provide insight into the future.
She still maintains the family farm on which she and her husband, now deceased, raised their three children.
Her greatest earthly joy and sense of accomplishment comes from participating in the lives of her children, their spouses, and her ten grandchildren.
