Bouncing Back from Failure and Disappointment
Dear Coach,
I have experienced many setbacks, disappointments and failures. I get so excited that it could final happen and then nothing. There are days when I have no hope and often times I feel like giving up on my dream. How can I move forward? –Ready to Live the Dream
Dear Ready to Live the Dream,
Despite our best efforts at some point in life we all experience disappointments, setbacks and failure. It could be a result of a mistake we made or something completely out of our control. The bottom line is that IF you are ever going to try to achieve anything then these circumstances are an inevitable part of life. The major difference between people who succeed and those who don’t are their perception and responds to failure.
#1 Be Encouraged… You are in Great Company!
The greatest of achiever have bounced back from failure and disappointment. Challenging your perspective on failure will help you persevere. Every great success story has a failure chapter.
Famous People Who Failed…
Steve Jobs ¬
Michael Jordan
Oprah Winfrey
Henry Ford
Bill Gates
Harland Sanders
Walt Disney
Albert Einstein
Isaac Newton
Thomas Edison
Steven King
J.K. Rowling
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart… just to name a few!
Helen Keller: Lost her sight and hearing due to a mysterious fever when she was only 18 months old. She overcame her deafness and blindness to become a strong, educated woman who spoke about, and promoted, women's rights.
Winston Churchill: Overcame a stuttering problem and poor performance in school to become Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and one of the most influential political leaders of the twentieth century. He was also known for his powerful and rousing speeches.
#2 Should Have, Would Have, Could Have… Get Rid of Regret!
When we fail we may feel like we have wasted our time but regret lies in not doing. Mistakes are not permanent markers on our egos. The only waste of time is the time spent living with REGRET!
#3 What Can I Learn?
Failure, setbacks and disappointments can actually open your eyes to options you never considered before. Don’t be afraid of new and creative ways of solving issues.
#4 Remove the “U” from Failure! It’s NOT Spelled Fail U R.
Keep You Confidence in Yourself. Don’t identify yourself with the result or outcome. You are NOT a failure you just tried something that did not work.
#5 Say “Good-Bye” to Yesterday! Let it Go–Forgive.
Holding on to the past will hinder your forward movement. The weight of unforgiveness especially forgiving yourself, can be heavy and not to mention expensive to your health!
Nearly everyone at some point in life has been hurt by the actions or words of another. Holding on to unresolve offenses, hurt or anger is like buried toxic waste waiting to resurface. We can pretend it doesn’t exist but over time the harmful effects will seep up and create a mess in our environment. This repressed pain can manifest itself into depression and anxiety; causing bitterness and stealing our joy, peace and victory.
Researchers have recently become interested in studying the effects of being unforgiving vs. being forgiving. Evidence is mounting that holding grudges and bitterness results in long-term health problems. Forgiveness, on the other hand, offers numerous benefits, including: lower blood pressure, reduction in chronic pain and less stress. When you don’t practice forgiveness, you may be the one who pays the most.
When you choose to forgive you are not agreeing with the wrong done but more so forgiveness is the act of untying yourself from thoughts and feelings that bind you and delay your victory.
#6 Dream Again.
There is creative power when you allow yourself space and permission to DREAM. Think about the outcomes you want to see. Focus on where you want to be instead of where you currently are when you do you will see a clearer pathway as to how to get there. Don’t let the fear or worry of future failure stop you from setting goals and dreaming of the life you want to live! Dream Big!
From the Coach:
Faith is like a SUPERPOWER, that’s why someone is always trying to steal it!
Ask Yourself:
What do I REALLY want?
Is what I want and what God wants for my life in alignment?
What I am willing to do to achieve the desired results? Why have I not done it yet?
