Bible Characters in Poetry

There are those living today,
who think it would have been so grand;
if they could have placed their footprints
alongside the Lord's in the hot and burning sand.
If only I could have walked with him, they say,
by the shores of Galilee".
If only I could have been with him,
as he healed the sick,
and made the blinded eyes to see!
If only I could have been able
to sit and feast with him;
oh just to watch him break the bread!
Or maybe I could have been
one of the thousands on the hillside,
that he so graciously fed!
Some say that it would have been so great,
to be standing by the tomb;
when Jesus commanded Lazarus to come forth,
from that cold and darkened room.
Many say they would have loved to be
in Peter's boat that night;
when Jesus arose and calmed the troubled sea,
as the fishermen trembled in fright!
Could you even imagine being with the Lord
as was Peter, James, and John;
when his glory shone before them,
on the Mountain of Transfiguration?
His face did shine as the sun.
His raiment was white as the light.
And when Moses and Elijah showed up,
it must have been a sight!
Many say they would have loved to walk
the cobblestone streets of old Jerusalem.
Many would have loved to see the woman healed
of the issue of blood;
just by touching his garment's hem.
I suppose if I could have lived back then
I would have loved to be,
with the Samaritan woman at the well;
when she heard and received the words of eternal life,
then ran back to the city to tell!
Or maybe I would have loved to be
with the two on the Emmaus way;
who said, "Did not our hearts bum within us,
as he opened the scripture to us today"?
But there is none of us so willing,
who would be able to readily say;
we would have liked to help him shoulder
the burden of the cross he bore that day!
Our Lord was the innocent, who died as guilty,
that we, the guilty, could live as free.
May we never forget the price he paid
that day at Calvary!
Now, it really doesn't matter,
the frame of time we've been granted to live.
But the greatest fulfillment of purpose,
is when our all to Jesus we give!
