The Awakened Soul in the Life of the Trinity

The Trinity is the most powerful soul structure available to us as humans. It is remarkably complete, with each member providing both the needed resources for our work with the soul healing and a direct and unique pathway to the Awakened Soul. All three members of the Trinity have remarkable gifts for our work, and they are constantly available and looking for an invitation from us to join in the successful search for health and wholeness. The human triad of the spiritually complete person – Awakened Soul, Natural Mind, and Aware Body – once constellated in the human soul, create a being so in touch with life and so open as to defy mental illness and, even though this person continues to have needs for the constant reconnection with the strength of the Trinity because we are human, will enjoy a life that was meant to be lived.

The Trinity: Part 1. The Human Relationship with God

The right relationship with God contains us and defines us. In treatment and growth in life it is essential that we are both contained and defined.

I heard once that whoever does not believe in God believes he or she is one. One of the first events in discovering God in us is a new awareness that makes us laugh at our previous pride. Laughter is best when it is the deep laugh of recognizing that we need to develop a totally disrespectful approach to the absurdity of our arrogance and our belief that we can eat from the tree of knowledge continuously day after day, decade after decade, without ever being punished for our attempt to become more than human, to be gods ourselves, and never fearing that we could be expelled from Eden at any moment. Looking back we see the absurdity of how much we knew, how we thought we could control our lives, and how much our scrambling to gain this empty illusion has exhausted us. We see clients who are utterly depleted of energy and yet clinging to beliefs that they hope will be restorative, but that simply won't work. Evil never has a desire to get us off this out of control Merry-Go-Round; the devil is content to keep those he already owns miserable.

As we continue farther and farther along our walk of The Way, we become more and more aware of our utter dependency on God. We gradually surrender to a state of obedience and joy, until one day we wake up to the incredible realization of what it means to be truly human.

An awakening of our soul to God teaches us our humanity, that we are not gods ourselves.  We are taught humility and how it is greatly misunderstood. When we awaken to our humanity under God, which is called humility, we are then transported to a place of power unlike anything we have ever felt because God is now with us and working through us; there is no greater power. Jesus, in the Sermon of the Mount, tells us which parts of our humanity will be blessed. This sermon is clearly, directly and unapologetically presented in Mathew 5:1-12. This single address has in fact changed the world unlike any other teaching in history. This is the only structure that will awaken our souls. For most of our clients it will be a complete reversal of their worn-out striving. They will soon find that what they have been desperately clinging to was not what they really needed at all. The first gift of God is this humility, and the needed realization from us is that this structure must be in place. It orients us back to who we truly are and how we are to be with others. We learn both the essential conditions of our blessedness and the power of obedience.

As we (or our clients) begin to understand humanness and come into right relationship (structure) with God, the only logical thing to do is worship (the Holy Spirit now enters the scene). Nothing but worship makes any sense; the whole thing is just so overwhelmingly beautiful. We must experience this and invite discussions or stories about this worship in therapy.
