Frank sat in his well-worn Lazy-Boy brown suede recliner. It was dilapidated from years of use. His body imprint was formed forever into it's cushions. A slow creaking noise escaped from the aged chair as he rocked back and forth. This old rocker reminded Frank of himself: tired, worn-out, and creaking. Frank gazed out from his dirt-streaked sliding door of his apartment and stared at the Santa Clara Mountains. They loomed majestically in the horizon like a huge blanket. Apartment 105 at The Haven retirement home was his new residence. He'd been here now for two months. Like most things in life, Frank despised this place. Alone in his room he sat and stared at the mountains. The sound of the Fox news channel blared from his T.V. Frank caught a glimpse of his reflection from the light of the T.V. as he gazed out the glass door. With a heavy sigh, he closed his eyes in an attempt to escape this reality. Slowly his mind wandered back into time to his storehouse of memories and happier days.

About the Author
Teacher, mother, and college athlete, Sarah Nordlund is passionate about sports and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. Growing up in a rural small town in Nebraska as the “coach’s daughter” she developed a passion for athletics. This also provided an opportunity to spend time in the gym watching her father coach and helped pave the way for her to follow her father’s footsteps. Sarah was a three-sport letterman at Gibbon High School and ran track at Kearney State College where she earned Academic All- American honors. She received a bachelor of arts degree in Elementary Education with a middle school endorsement in math and social studies. Her degree opened teaching opportunities at the elementary and middle school levels, where she also coached volleyball and track. Passionate about education, she is also actively involved in an international educational philanthropy- P.E.O. Married for over twenty-five years, Sarah and her husband Marty have two daughters and live in Nebraska.
