The “Spirit of Division” is still prevalent in our churches just like the days of the early Christian community. Its mission is to separate the church, thus weakening the Body and rendering ministry ineffective! How ironic, Paul’s first letter to Corinthians written about 56 AD in response to various issues raised by the Corinthians are the same issues we face today. Paul’s plea for Christian unity is still loud and clear.
Samuel Butler a 19th-century British novelist/ writer said: "People in general are equally horrified at hearing the Christian religion doubted, and at seeing it practiced." Today this seems to be an all-too-common outlook about the body of Christ. A Christian should set an example by being different. If many of us would stop playing church, then we would be distinguished among all the other people on the face of the Earth. Are you a Christian? If you are a Christian then your life should be a ministry that helps bring the message of salvation, redemption, and compassion to a lost world. Christians are simply telescopes that bring Jesus into focus for the rest of the world. God has called us to live above the standards of this world. How can a Christian be a light to a dark world if they’re blending in with the world like a bunch of chameleons! The effects of not adhering to Biblical principles can discourage mature Saints, disillusion new believers, create more distance with the nonbeliever, and bring strong criticism upon the name of Christ. Jesus didn’t die so His people could play Church and blend in.
A lot of Christians seem to be more concerned with the mere image of Christianity than being Christ-like! How can today’s Christian be a better reflection of Christ? Well, before a person can become a better reflection of Christ they have to deal with their pride by humbling themselves before God. I know all too well how false humility is a by-product of self-righteousness. Matter of fact, false humility is simply dressed up arrogance and on several occasions throughout my life, I was dressed to impress! However, “Eventually this two-faced image will become apparent, just as our sins expose us in due time” (Numbers 32:23).
Is it any surprise that even a non-believer can notice when a believer is acting worldly? How many times have you heard the words, “I thought you were saved”, directed at you or someone else? Just like some of the early Christians in the middle of the first century, today for some people saying “I’m a Christian” is a mere assertion made with little or no proof! Speaking from experience, thinking you can receive Jesus Christ then continue to live with no evidence of being born again, completely divorces you from reality!
I pray that as many people as possible can be exposed to the Gospel; plus walk in the freedom, victory, and authority Christ bought for us while there is still time. A critical deadline is approaching and one day people are going to gravely regret not taking heed to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
