INTRODUCTION How peaceful and refreshing it is when the wind blows. It is soothing to the heart and relaxing to the mind. But I have noticed, you can never tell where the wind will blow and how hard the wind will blow. The direction of the wind can be strange, yet sometimes mysterious. “The wind blows where it pleases, and you hear its sound, but you don’t know where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit” (John 3:8, Holman Christian Standard Bible). That is the same way, in which I had viewed my cancer diagnosis—strange! But there is nothing mysterious or surprising for God. Not at all! For God knows all about my life from the beginning to the end. “Your eyes saw me when I was formless; all my days were written in Your book and planned before a single one of them began” (Psalm 139:16, HCSB). Cries in the Wind is written from “My Battle Cry,” which is a prayer/poem to God that I wrote and frequently prayed asking God to heal my body from cancer. Because when the wind blows it blows for a reason, which only God has the answer. But I know God specializes in healing, and only He knows where the wind will blow in my life.

Being a breast cancer survivor, author VANESSA A. JACKSON AUSTIN knows firsthand that God works miracles; when cancer could have swallowed her whole, God intervened and carried her.
To her surprise, cancer was not detected during her annual mammograms during the years of 2007 and 2008 at a local health-care facility. But she knows that God heard her cries in the wind and bestowed His grace and mercy upon her.
About the Author
Vanessa A. Jackson Austin is a poet, writer, greeting card designer, and jewelry and stained glass designer. She has published two poems & quotes books entitled, Live On and Refreshments for the Heart. Vanessa received her undergraduate degrees in marketing with a minor in management from Jacksonville State University, as well as an accounting degree from Athens State University. She holds a master’s in business education from Alabama A&M University. In addition, Vanessa owns and manages CABBIT Designs, where she handcraft s and sells a variety of one-of-a-kind, inspirational items. Vanessa lives with her husband and three sons in Harvest, Alabama.
