It was New Year’s Eve, 1970. I’d botched another futile attempt to make those stupid yearly resolutions toward self-improvement. I couldn’t stand it anymore. I came to the conclusion that all such manmade “penances” were worthless. I suffered from such a lack of self-esteem; I had no purpose. I cried out to Whoever was up there, “God, if you are concerned with my life at all, You’ve got to show me. I can’t do this anymore. There’s a vacuum, and I can’t fill it. If You’re really real, You’re going to have to show me how to fix this.” Early morning, January 1, 1971. I was suddenly awakened by a brilliant light shining in my bedroom. It filled my room with a wonderfully holy and warm Presence. There was Someone else in the room with me! It was the Lord Jesus Christ! I felt that I should stick my hands up into the light, and as I did, I saw two outstretched hands reaching out for mine. I could see nail prints in His wrists. My hands and forearms, up to my elbows, disappeared into that light. I was shaking all over, and then I heard the most beautiful voice say to me: “I have heard your cry for acceptance. I have heard your cry for reality, and I love you just the way that you are.”

About the Book
James Maloney’s start in life was rooted in abuse, rejection, and fear. As a teenager, facing thoughts of suicide, he cried out to God, “If You’re real, You're going to have to reveal Yourself to me.”
Jesus Christ appeared to James in a cloud of glory and told him, “I have heard your cry for acceptance. I have heard your cry for reality, and I love you just the way you are.”
Like many others in this world, James suffered under severe wounds of rejection stemming from physical and emotional abuse as a child. He labored under fear and isolation. Even so, his moving testimony shows Jesus as the Great Physician—one who can uproot any issue and touch any person and make them whole, no matter how wounded they may be.
The Wounded Cry is a dynamic, true story of one young man’s search for acceptance and love, and how a touch from God can turn any horrible situation into a praise report of His glory.

The older he gets, the more he enjoys fishing, barbecuing, collecting Old West memorabilia, and wrestling with his five grandsons.
